Hi, my name is Scott, and I’m the proud father of two great girls. My youngest, Josie, loves the zoo, is actively involved in her Girl Scout troop and has a smile that melts my heart! Josie was born with an undiagnosed syndrome, and experiences mental and physical disabilities. As she transitioned into the school system, I became more involved, doing my best to learn and advocate for Josie as I was able.
My desire to learn, understand, and strive to provide what’s best for my daughter led me to seek connections with other parents through participation in family networks. In the fall of 2013, I was selected to be in the 2014 Oregon Partners in Policymaking leadership class. This training has prepared and equipped me to become a strong advocate for all children and adults who experience disability.
Having a child that’s exceptional is a wonderful gift that I wouldn’t change for anything. The journey, even to this early stage, has not been easy. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to pass on what I’ve learned (and continue to learn) to other families; hopefully making their path a little easier.
Below is a video of Josie from earlier this year.
